travel journal--waiting for departure at gate 29
Things went so well today that I started to worry because there seemed to be nothing to worry about. What was I missing??? I had coffee with a friend and ran a few errands, then came home to finish packing. Everything still fits the way I planned it, although things are a little tight. I might have to get another bag to bring extra stuff home.
I was sitting there, all packed, waiting for my ride to San Francisco and the airport. I made a cup of espresso, and as I took the first sip, the phone rang.
It was the bank. Someone had just tried to use my credit card number at a Best Buy in Brooklyn NY, many, many miles from where both the credit card and I were sitting. I looked at the card, the card looked at me, and we both looked at the cup of espresso.
The bank guy said someone tried to charge something for $1600. "Don't worry," he said, "you won't have to pay for it."
"But," he added, "we cancelled your card."
The card I was taking with me to pay for all the stuff I needed to pay for on this trip. Yikes! I've had that card for over 15 years, and never a problem. And now, at the worst possible moment, it gets cancelled.
"What are the odds?", I asked?
"Uhhhh", he replied.
It was too late to get a new card issued, but I do have another card with another bank, so I should be ok as long as nothing happens to that card.
*****(these belong to my friend J, but she lets me borrow them)*****
I got a ride to the airport from Hunny Bunny's parents, and she came along to keep me occupied. She laughs at everything I say. "You're so funny!", she yells. She will be coming to the Philippines in a couple of weeks, and I'll meet them there. She will be my little tour guide.
My plane doesn't leave for another couple of hours, but you never know about how long security will take. Since I got here early, it only took 10 minutes, even with a hand-check of my film, so here I am, waiting. I found a wall plug, so I can internet to my heart's content until I'm ready to go.
Next update will be from a foreign land!
