57017--croissant

We went up to my step-sister's house for a pre-christmas brunch with my dad's side of the family. My step-sis has a lovely house atop a hill overlooking the Sacramento valley. I love going up there. My other step-sister is a fantastic baker, and made a selection of homemade croissants for our meal. They were indescribably good. I don't even want to tell you how many pounds of butter she used.

When we got there, we took a walk down the hill to the mailbox. It is a 1 1/2 mile roundtrip. The weather was great--60 degrees and sunny. It's a rural area, so lots of open space and animals.

Here's a little guy from the property down the hill. He was really friendly, and came out to wish us a merry Christmas.

It's always good to see my dad. We have had a strained relationship in the past, but I just enjoy spending time with him now--we both seem to have mellowed out.

He's 83, and in pretty good health. He lives a few miles from the airport, so we'll see him again just before we leave for our trip.

It was a nice day.

Your Dad looks like quite the character .. what does the tattoo on his arm say?

It says "Mike". We share a name, although everyone in my family calls me "Mick". He looks unhappy here, but he wasn't.

Those croissants look great. I'm glad you patched things up with your dad.
That donkey is cute.

I had a leftover croissant for breakfast this morning. I have now met my quota for the coming year.

I'm glad my dad and I get along now too. You know better than anyone about how the only time we have with each other is the present, and it can slip away so quickly.
