57130--what do you do on the day after an eclipse?

Get stuff ready for a trip down the coast. We are heading down to Cambria for a few days, and then down to LA to see my family. I took the big car to be serviced this morning, and then a car wash. Forgot to get gas.

full eclipse

I stayed up until after 2:30 am watching the eclipse. Even though I've seen eclipses before, there is a sort of magic to them that never fails to impress. Radioparadise.com had a great eclipse set playing, and I listened to that as I watched and took pictures. It was cloudy during the penumbral eclipse, but cleared up nicely. I know some of my friends had clouds that obscured their view, so I felt fortunate.

three

My favorite picture of the evening was this one, that shows the red moon, Mars up in the right corner, and Spica, to the right of the moon.

I got to bed late, and had to get up fairly early, and now I am sleepy.

eclipse 1
How will you know if you found me at last
'Cause I'll be the one, be the one, be the one
With my heart in my lap
I'm so tired, I'm so tired
And I wish I was the moon tonight

I'm so glad I stayed up for it--so worth the wait.

I'm very sad that I missed the eclipse. But I'll get another chance in October!

Yes--there are something like 4 eclipses this year!

I can still remember one from about 1983, when I was living in Oakland. A bunch of us went up to the roof of the apartment building and laid down and watched it while listening to Pink Floyd.

Very nice - you are fortunate that you had clear skies .. it was cloudy here. Boo. :(

It was cloudy here for a while, but cleared up nicely as it went into full eclipse.

Beautiful photos. Next time I'll either use a standard lens or get a better telescope. Eclipses do that to me too. Science you can see. Proof that heavenly demons are hungry. Take your pick. :-)

I used a 200mm lens, but wished I had a 400.

I have heard that there are adaptors that allow you to connect a camera to a telescope. I wouldn't mind trying that out.

That's how I took my eclipse photos. It takes two small gadgets, a T-ring which snaps into the camera the way a lens would, and a T-adapter which matches the threads on the T-ring with the somewhat smaller opening on the telescope.

My pix did not turn out so well because the telescope was a very slow f/12.5 and that meant 3-second exposure times. I've got another one on order which is rated f/5 and ought to be able to get the shutter speed down to 1/30 or so. Since the moon is moving, the faster shutter speed makes for a sharper image.

I'm glad you got some beautiful photos of the eclipse. I woke up during the night to check but it was just totally overcast here.

Ahh too bad. They should schedule these things on clear nights. :)

Lovely photos! I'm glad you had the opportunity to see the pink moon.
Have a good trip!

The eclipse was great--just what I needed!

love the last one,
lucky here there were only intermittent clouds

The last one was one of the first that I took--it has a different feel to it than the others.

And I like the first one best! something for everyone today

And the middle one is my favorite!
