There is a hotel in San Luis Obispo called the Madonna Inn.
You can't miss it--it's painted a bright pink. It has a little over 100 rooms, each unique in style and color. No two are even remotely alike.

On our way to our honeymoon we stopped over and stayed in the "Lovenest" for a night.

Awwwwwwwww.

But that's not really what this is about. A couple of years before we were married we stayed there on a tuesday night on our way back from LA. We had dinner, and then went into the lounge to have a drink and listen to the music. It was "big band" night, and they had a pretty decent band playing dance numbers. The lounge has a huge dance floor--polished wood. It makes me think of one of those old resorts in the Poconos or something (not that I've ever been to the Poconos or even close).

Anyway, nobody was dancing--it was Tuesday and the place was dead. After a little while this geeky couple walked in. They looked like they had just walked off the set of American Graffiti. The sat at one of the tables and had a drink.

The band started playing a tango. The couple got up and walked toward the dance floor. And the moment their feet hit the wood they were transformed. They began to dance--and they were magnificent! Each step was perfect. I had never seen anything like it, except for maybe in a Fred Astaire movie.

When the music stopped, they left the floor and returned to their seats. We walked over to talk to them. I was sure they must be professionals that the hotel hired to liven things up. But no, they were just some geeky couple from a little town about 40 miles away. They got bored one day and decided to take dancing lessons. And every Tuesday night they got in the car and drove to the Madonna Inn and danced to the music.

I had forgotten all about them until I was looking at that tango picture I posted this morning. I wonder if they still dance on Tuesdays? Dang, they were good!
