Happy birthday to you....

Let's sing Happy Birthday!
A year ago I was in southern california. I was down for a week or two with my mom after she had a heart procedure done. As I drove down through the Tehachapi Pass, I passed hills carpeted with the most beautiful wild flowers--it was as if an artist had gone wild with purples and oranges.
I said to myself, "I wish I had a camera!" Actually, I had a couple of cameras, but none of them were with me. They were all sitting in the closet at home. I really only took them out for vacations and stuff. I liked taking pictures, but not on a daily basis.
Arlina and I had talked about getting a digital camera, and had put a little money aside, but hadn't really done much about it. But I really wanted to take pictures of those flowers on my trip back up, so, before I headed for home, I went a couple of stores and looked at digitals. After many hours of shopping, I settled on one and bought it, then went to pick up my niece from school.
I took her to Starbucks and had a coffee. By chance, the guy sitting next to me had just purchased a digital camera as well. We started comparing notes, and I found that I liked his camera better than mine! I dropped my niece off, and went back to the store to exchange the one I had purchased for the one the other guy had. I wish I could remember what the original camera was, but I don't think I could like anything as much as my G3. It's my buddy.
I left for home the next morning, taking many pictures along the way.

I took a few more pictures after I got home, but taking pictures every day wasn't something I had an inclination to do. At least not until two weeks later, when I started to desperately try and capture a life, that, in a moment, had changed forever. That is when I became a photographer.
