Everything went well with Arlina's "permanent" catheter placement on friday, and she has had a fairly stable handful of days since then. So the plan is for her to come home tomorrow. yay! They will switch her over to the portable pain control pump in the morning, and then we are free to go. A hospice nurse will come to see us in the afternoon and explain their services to us. For some reason, this one thing made me feel anxious. I don't know why--whether it was the reality of hospice, or just a reaction to change, but it passed (mostly).

I came home this afternoon and straightened up the house a little. It wasn't really as messy as you would think (if you knew me), but there was a month's worth of unfolded laundry sitting on the bed, so I watched "Serpico" on tv and folded it all. After dinner I made a batch of blueberry scones to bring to the nurses in the morning. It was the first time I had cooked dinner in over a month.

I picked up my leave of absence papers this afternoon. I can take up to 12 weeks of family leave time, and then there is an option to take personal leave for another 12 weeks. There is a part of me that thinks I will never go back to my job, but the rest of me is somewhat more pragmatic.

I have no real idea of what the coming days will bring. It is a little scary, but I sense it will ultimately be ok, however it plays out. I write a lot about this in my paper journal, and one day I'll share some of it.

I'll continue to update my lj as I can. I will also begin posting again in [livejournal.com profile] agrupdate. Those entries, while similar to the ones I post here, will be mostly about Arlina, and very little about me. Take your pick.

Thanks for all your prayers and well-wishes to this point. As I have mentioned before, it makes a real difference for us, knowing you are out there.
