young me and mae-mae
Jun. 20th, 2005 09:29 pmI breezed back to Temecula last evening on an open road with the windows down and the ipod blasting an LA mix. Took me just over an hour. Everyone else was gone, so I had the place to myself. I sat out back and watched the last little bits of light fade out beyond the mountains.
I found one of their old photo albums and was looking through it when I came across this picture from 15 years ago. It was just after the Mt. Pinatubo volcano erupted in the Philippines. Arlina's cousin, who was living on one of the affected navy bases, was evacuated to the United States with her two daughters--one age 3 and the other 6 weeks old. They stayed with Arlina for a couple of months until things settled down a little.
This little one is now almost 15, going on 30. She is a long distance runner and is planning to go to medical school. The guy with the messed up hair doesn't have any idea what he wants to be when he grows up.
