In a somewhat spontaenous action, I went hiking in the Oakland hills this afternoon at a place I hadn't visited since I was about 19. Lots of odd little memories came flooding back--the colors were so vivid!

It was kind of cold and damp, but the sun was out and it felt great to walk old familiar trails again. I ate my lunch on a rock with a view of the bay to the west and a trout stream to the east.

I came across this marker, which served as an entirely appropriate reminder that it is the birthday of my good friend [livejournal.com profile] etroutski, the Andrew Carnegie of trout.

I remember with particular amusement, people with three-cornered hats fishing in the dawn.
