54126--it looks like an IBM card....
Apr. 14th, 2011 08:33 pmI almost called in sick to work today, but didn't, and it wasn't a bad day. I was the rapid response guy, and was busy, but not overwhelmed. That's the way I like it.
I only had a handful of calls, all of them interesting. I helped to send one woman to emergency surgery and she came back looking fine, which was a good thing.

A charge nurse on one of the nursing units told me that they were passing out these neat flashlight/whistle things for the nurses to carry around with them so that if they get assaulted by a patient, they can blow the whistle and get immediate help.
I suppose the flashlight is to temporarily blind them so you have time to blow the whistle and get out of the way. I want one.
When I was up on the 5th floor ICU, a nurse from the 3rd floor ICU called and asked me where she could find a particular form. I told her where to find it, and added, "it looks like an IBM card".
"What's an IBM card?" she asked.

I saw this in the ICU waiting room. It's a plant growing in a jug. I have no idea where it came from or who put it in the window, but I love it. I wish we had plants growing all over the place in the ICU.
Someone asked in a comment if I met my wife in Thailand. The answer is yes, and it made me think about an idea I had a while ago about revisiting the story of how I came to be where I am today. It kind of fits with my idea of creating a coherent narrative. I'd love to be able to just tell it from beginning to the present, beginning with the beginning of my journal. We'll see.
If I asked you if you knew what an IBM card was, what would you say?
