I drive past a park on the way to work every day. Off the right side of the freeway bridge, looking to the east is the American river. It is a beautiful sight in the early morning--the banks lined with trees, the river still, reflecting the first rays of sun. There's no place to stop and get a shot, so it is a picture that I take in my head every day.

On the other side of the freeway bridge is Discovery Park, where the American meets the Sacramento river. It's a nice spot to hang out--sometimes I take my lunch there, but not often enough.

One of the first shots I posted here (or at my previous journal) when I did my first "picture a day for a year" thing back in 2006, was taken in Discovery Park during the January floods. It was January 3rd. "The waters are turbulent", I noted. It was the year I started putting my life back together. The waters were turbulent.

Anyway, I didn't have to be at work until 8 this morning, so I drove through the park to see if I could find a vantage point to take a picture of the river. I got out and took some shots of the old bridge, nothing special. It was cold out--about 24 degrees. I got back in the car and drove out of the park, glancing at the archery range on the right as I went out. I almost got to the freeway entrance, and turned back. I can't count how many pictures I just kept driving past in the past few years, but not this one.
