I spent a good part of the day working on an assignment that is due tonight. I can use the excuse that the house was torn up all week for not doing it earlier, but I would have done it today no matter what. I figured I could get most of it done before the super bowl, and then finish it during the game if the game was boring.

The game was pretty exciting and I watched the whole thing, even halftime, which I liked. I loved Lady Gaga's rendition of the National Anthem. She's the real thing. I was glad the Broncos won, but felt bad for Cam Newton. I'm sure he will be back at another Super Bowl one of these days. Malida loved the game, even though she knows almost nothing about it.

refining the PICO statement

I stopped writing about 45 minutes before the game to make my world famous clam dip and cook a tri-tip, some artichoke ravioli, and sautéed cabbage for our Super Bowl meal. Usually we have our friends over, but they are in Thailand, so it was just the two of us. I marinated the tri-tip overnight, then seared it in a cast-iron skillet, and finished it by tossing the skillet in the oven.

After the game I came in and finished up my paper and submitted it. I have something else due tomorrow, but will deal with that when tomorrow comes.

grandma

Today is the 108th anniversary of my grandma's birth. She was born in San Francisco in 1908. She lived to be 93, though she thought she had made it to 100, and was very pleased about that. She was a stabilizing presence in my life, and had a huge influence in shaping me as the person I am now. Sharp-eyed lovers of bad movies will recognize her as the babysitter who gets killed by the swamp monster in the cheesy 1980 movie The Fog.

Happy birthday Grandma!

Your grandma looked like a cool lady. I don't think I've seen the movie she was in. Now I'll have to track it down... Or maybe not. I just watched a clip. Omg soo cheesy, but scary! I don't like scary movies so I'll pass 😱

I always remember my grandmothers on their birthdays. One was born in 1900 on Feb. 2nd, she lived untul she was 95 and the other in 1901 on Valentine's Day, she died at 81. Nice tribute to your grandmother. We just watched The Fog a few weeks ago.

Glad you enjoyed your day.

Haha yes, very cheesy. My cousins and I used to watch it and when her scenes came on, we would yell, "Grandma, don't open the door!" but she always did.

My grandfather was born on Valentines Day, in 1904. He loved that he was born on that day.

I can't believe I missed that Firesign Theatre reference and had to Google. Hand me the pliers, I think I'm done.

Yes! I has thought that you might comment on the Pico and Alvarado because of your connection to LA, but it was the Firesign Theatre Pico and Alvarado that I was thinking about.
