I tolerated about a half hour of the tv coverage of the war and then had to turn it off. No matter which channel I turned to, it seemed too much like they were covering some sports event rather than highly coordinated death. It's like the Olympics or something.

I switched to NPR, which is slightly better. At least it doesn't consume me--I can tune it out.

During the first gulf war, I couldn't get enough of the coverage. I was glued to the tv for days, fascinated by every precision bomb that found its target. I didn't take time then to consider what was behind those concrete walls and under the burning piles of rubble. I guess I know now.

I continue to pray for peace, but feel it is mostly a futile gesture.

I can only listen to classical music right now, because the music is soothing, and that station has few and short newsbreaks. NPR's very calmness was annoying me, they also have a "rah, rah" quality to my ears--just more of a cricket sensibility than the rugby attitude of the rest.

I've been going to the BBC's "hour-by-hour (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/2866555.stm)" page for synopses now and again. But I feel like there's no surprises there, everything is going according to script.

Ugh.

I'm only watching "The Golden Girls". So soothing.

You could pray for peas. That's doable.

Be careful what you pray for...

I'd probably get them, and then have to eat 'em.
