It's the computer screen. I had the camera slaved into the computer and was looking at myself in the screen.

You can have it, it's your word! I always make up words and my husband tells me I need to learn to speak the English language. :)Been meaning to ask, are you Orthodox? I've been trying to figure this out from little slippits I read in your journal.

How did you come up with the name "myasma" for your LJ name? Does it have meaning to you?

Date: 2003-09-02 09:20 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] myasma.livejournal.com
It was one of my first email addresses. It is derived from miasma, which I used to use on compuserv in the days when email addresses were numbers, and you could pick a different screen name every time you logged on.

Why do you think you do LJ? I am thinking about why I do it, and I am perhaps going to be leaving, even though I have really enjoyed it.

Interesting that you would ask me that today, as I have been reflecting on this very question.

It almost seems like an alternate life sometimes. A place I can escape to when the real world becomes too much. I'm trying to decide if that is a good thing or a bad thing. I suspect it can be both.

In my reflections on it I have come up with the same conclusions. I know I started it at a very stressful time in my life and it was sort of amazing how it pulled me out of the doldrums. It was like talking to the universe or something and having the universe answer back, and the answer would be that they liked me, that everything was going to be okay, or I could debate my philosophical questions, or they would just make me laugh, and I hadn't been doing much of that. So, I can imagine how it could be a thing for you to use with everything you have been through and are going through. I think it's a good thing also for people who are home alot. It does perhaps get a little addicting sometimes. lol

That's the thing that concerns me. Some days it seems like I spend too much time reading ljs when I should be doing something a little more meaningful. It's a trait I have noticed in myself. I'll find a good escape and get completely absorbed in it. I did that with The Sims for a while. I usually reach a point where I get tired of it and back off.

The Sims? Don't no what that is. Yes, LJ can sort of stifle you if you do it too much. A person has to have a balance. Someone like me can really fall into it because i am hoem all day, don't have small children to take care of etc. I can be a real sloth!! Today i am going to go and work on my painting however, which has ben sadly neglected because i have been away at the lake all summer and mostly been gardening et al (and being a sloth there too ha!)
