I never know how I'll react to these things. Johnny Cash didn't surprise me, but John Ritter did.

They played an excerpt from "Will the Circle be Unbroken" on NPR this morning as I was driving to work, and I started to cry.

John Ritter was relatively young, and died quickly of the kind of heart defect that's almost impossible to catch or repair once it's broken. :(

I heard it, and I cried too.
I told my husband when June died in May, i bet it wasn't going to be long before Johnny went too. It just breaks my heart.

I remember when I first heard it when I was 19, and the impact it had on me then. It is a beautiful song that reminds me that we are never really separated, even by death.

How are you doing? Arlina was asking about you the other night--wondering how you enjoyed your trip. We are contemplating a trip up the oregon coast at the end of the month for our anniversary, if she feels up to it.

Yeah, I think everyone saw that one coming.

I am doing pretty well. I have my last treatment on Tuesday at 11:30 am. The nurse told me to take my compazine before I come in because I got slightly nauseous last tuesday. I will be glad to be through with chemo...it got harder and harder as I got towa rd the end, not physically harder, but mentally it was sorta rough.

The trip was fun but nervewracking. I posted about it on my journal I think shortly after I got back. Maybe it was after August 6. See it there...

I hope you get to go to Oregon. It sho uld be very nice up there now. Are you hot? It was 100 degrees in our back yard today. It's still pretty hot and it's 10:38 pm. This kind of weather really gets to me. I can hardly believe that we actually lived in Modesto 17 years. We've only been here s ince 1987. That's almost as long as living in Modesto(i just realized) and I am sure that I would not be able to stand the weather over there now.s{

Living in Appalachia, this is one I hear with some regularity. The lyrics are haunting and real in their description of loss and sadness:

"Oh, I followed close behind her
Tried to hold up and be brave
But I could not hide my sorrow
When they laid her in the grave"

I too was shocked to hear about John Ritter. Jewel's 38 year old bass player died of a stroke. Those you don't expect. My 93 year old Aunt died on Thursday. That you expect. But still sad, the end of a chapter in my life. Suzy

Your last treatment forever? That's great!

It is quite hot up here. It is close to 85 right now, and will be about 100. I grew up in the Bay Area (San Lorenzo), and the day I moved to Sacramento it was 115 degrees here. I figured on getting back to the bay area as soon as I could, but it's been 19 years now, and this feels like home.

They are. I was trying to remember whether it was you or John Nettle who had the album, "Will The Circle be Unbroken". I recall that it was a triple album, and had all sorts of folks on it.

I had the album. A Nitty Gritty Dirtband compilation with many of the bluegrass greats: Doc Watson, Merle Travis, Mother Maybell, and many others.
