I'm going to Ft. Lauderdale in the morning for a few days to look at something someone invented and wants to sell to our hospital. I've never been to Florida, so I am really looking forward to it. I want to see the sun rise over the ocean. I'm assuming you can do that in Florida.

My bags aren't really packed--just a bunch of clothes, books and junk piled up on the bed. I almost always overpack. I have no idea how I was able to spend three weeks traveling in Europe with less than I am taking for a four day trip. Will my toenails grow enough in four days to justify bringing the toenail clipper? How many extra socks should I bring?

I am having trouble with the books--I am halfway through the one I'm reading (Life of Pi--excellent!), and will probably finish it on the plane. I still have a bunch of theology stuff to read, but whenever I take them with me, I never even take them out of the bag. But I do need to write a homily on the Trinity, so I should bring a Trinity book, even though I know I won't read it.

I bought another compact flash card for my camera today. I'm planning to take a lot of pictures while I'm there. I thought about bringing my 35mm along, but it's kind of the theology book of cameras these days.

I called the hotel this morning and asked if they have high-speed internet access. They do, but it is $10 a day. The contract for my trip stipulates that the company that is bringng me to Florida will pay all reasonable expenses. I think having internet access is reasonable, don't you? If you can tnk of any other reasonable expenses I mght be overlooking, please let me know!

Anyway, I have another post to write, but not enough time--it's about my meeting with the Bishop. Maybe I'll write it in Florida, and throw in a picture of a parrot or something.

Adios!

Since you're going to Fort Lauderdale, which is on the Atlantic coast, you will be able to see the sun rise over the ocean. If you were going to Tampa, you'd have to be content to see it set over the Gulf of Mexico. Of course, if you were going to the Keys, you could see both.

Have a good trip.

you beat me to the identical comment!

The bonus of watching the sun rise at the beach is that there aren't nearly so many people doing so as there are that watch it set.

Suntan lotion, that extra flash card, one of those lamps made entirely out of sea shells with "A souvenir of Florida" written on them?

Seriously have a great trip. (I am so jealous.)

Have fun. It's supposed to be nice in Florida this weekend.

You aren't going to an Aids conference are you? My good friend is going over to Ft. Lauderdale for this weekend and next week to attend this.

Too bad I am going to Tampa today. I'd love to meet you.

Angela G. made an invention just recently for the hospital that is apparently selling like hot cakes. I wonder if it is the same thing you are looking at. EC did great in his first AA LL game. Caught a fly ball in left field and scored twice. Which of course means he hit the ball off the pitching machine twice too! Well, even if I don't have time for my journal at least I have time to view yours.

love,
rdk
