I went down to the bay area to visit my dad today after not seeing him for almost 4 months. He turned 76 last week. We walked around his little town and he pointed out all of his favorite places. He loves the local library--he gave me a tour and told me all about its ups and downs.

He particularly enjoys the travel section. He showed me the books he checked out to read up on his last trip to England, Ireland, Iceland, Greenland and Newfoundland. Kind of an odd trip, but he is geared toward the exceptional rather than the average.

After the walk we had dinner and talked about life. It was probably the longest conversation we have ever had.

He doesn't understand the internet at all. I tried to explain im's to him and he just didn't get it. That's ok. When I was in Baton Rouge, he called and told me he was proud of me. He doesn't need to know about im's.

dad

I like this picture very much.

That's a great photo and a great story about a dad I envy.

I wish my own had lived that long.

And I hope that my son will have memories at least as kind about me in another thirty or so years.

well, it took me 48 years to get to this point. I am sure your son won't take nearly as long to realize what a gift his dad is.

Hah. You couldn't get my dad to Greenland on the point of a spear...but he's all over the internets like a blanket.

Maybe that's because he's only 74.

Hi there. I'm new to your journal. My husband is a nurse, so I see we have a little connection there. And I heard from a mutual friend that your LJ is nice to read. So here I am. :)

If you'd like to add me I'd be happy, but no obligation obviously. :)

That's a great photo of your dad.

It's funny about the Internet sometimes. It's advance and yet somehow we still have this "cultural lag" some people are not really accustom to using it. So they'd rather stick the old ways.
