I saw a bumper sticker the other day:

Forget world peace
Visualize using your turn signal

I was supposed to start my orientation to the new job this week, but they forgot to schedule me, so I will start next week instead. always a good sign. this gives me a couple of extra days to ponder those great mysteries of life:

--Why am I here?

--Where am I going?

--What's a boppy pillow?

Remember the pie charts? One of those things is starting to gain, and it's one that really didn't seem like it was going to go anywhere initially. But "taking a leisurly drive around the country only had a 7% chance back then too, so you never know.

There were a bunch of old filipino ladies here last night for a prayer group--one of those things that Arlina used to like. They brought lots of food and looked around in all the rooms--typical behavior for old filipino ladies. We prayed for a kid who fell and hit his head yesterday and had to have emergency surgery--the nephew of a friend's friend. After the prayer service my friend called and said the kid was doing great--talking and asking for food.

When I was in the Bay Area last week, I got to meet [livejournal.com profile] mactavish and [livejournal.com profile] joedecker--both very cool people. I forgot to take a picture! Interestingly enough, [livejournal.com profile] mactavish lives in the town I grew up in, and we met at a place I used to hang out at as a kid--the site of the old Doggie Diner, which is long gone. Guess what it is now?

doggie diner

I'm on my way back down to the bay area, to meet another lj friend who is visiting from the east and to take some pictures in one of my favorite places.

That is cool you got to meet those two. I hope I can someday. I feel a little isolated in the south bay from all those folks! :)

I went to the Doggie Diner on my honeymoon. It was definitely not the same as when I was a kid -- but it was still fun to go there. :)

Hey -- the Doggie Diner I went to, by the way, was by the SF Zoo and it's still a Doggie Diner. You must have been at the old location? Yep that must be it. :)

I was going to tell you what a boppy is, but someone answered. My daughter got one but her baby was really too big to fit comfortably on it while she nursed him. They were selling them at Costco the other day.
One of life's mysteries solved!

I've always liked Kilgore Trout's answer to the big question - why am I here?

From Breakfast of Champions:

"To be the eyes, ears and conscience of the creator of the Universe, you fool!"

I'll have to follow the link above to learn about bobby pillows. For me, it's all about the "mushy pillow." I hate foam pillows that seem to have their own agenda - trying to push you back off. I love a soft, mushy, almost flat pillow that conforms without resistance.

ARRRRGH. Bobby pillows. I have three friends who all had babies within three months of each other. One day the three of them (and I) all got together to have lunch. I swear, I had to listen to a half hour conversation from all of them on the glorious merits of boppy pillows and how they just COULDN'T IMAGINE (dramatic effect theirs) nursing a baby without one. I was fine for the first five minutes of the conversation, but after half an hour of hearing about how useful they were and whether or not it was better for the baby's skin to use a cotton lined one versus poly-cotton blend, I was about ready to throw myself off a bridge.

So, to answer your question about what a boppy pillow is, I offer this as an answer: it's a device new mothers use to torture those who are childless. ;-)

Sorry I missed you!

Joe and Mary are among the very nicest people I know. Smart, thoughtful, and warm.

And I live now within a couple miles of her.

hey, if you ever want to meet up, I'm in SF too - I think it would be great to get a chance to meet you. What with all of these LJ friends in the area though, I see where it could take a while for me to make it to the top of the queue. I do promise not to get any Jethro Tull songs stuck in your head, if that helps.

I know exactly that Ani DiFranco song. I love it. Heh.
I also love that bumper sticker..though I'm quite partial to "Visualize Whirled Peas" Of course.

Full disclosure: We call it a boppy pillow, though technically speaking it's another (and better!) brand:

Not that, y'know, you urgently need to know this. :)

Indeed. Here is the photo from our honeymoon. This Doggy Diner is just north of the SF Zoo on the same street.

1. I find myself wishing I'd said, "Joe, take a picture!" but my first thought was, "Oooh, S'bucks hates photos inside." But we could have.

2. Reading this thread makes me blush.

That's way cooler than a boppy. Yes, I AM sniffing around your friends list again, m'dear, and this guy is really interesting.

Hey you, I'm a friend of Theodicy's, and I love your photgraphs and it seems we have some music in common. Every time I look at your title, Jack White sings in my head. Is he meant to, or is that from something else? I, too, was going to answer the boppy question, but it's been covered.

hey you back

From: [identity profile] myasma.livejournal.com
hey, thanks for stopping by. the title is the same song, but the original by dylan, with emmylou harris singing background. i collect dylan covers though, and have the white stripes' version as well.

ps--i'm not really that interesting.
