February 24--Jesus in a boat.

We are at Point Reyes. We spent the afternoon exploring and taking pictures. In the evening we took some sunset shots, and I showed Malida how to paint with light. It was fun.

After we finished taking pictures, we went for dinner at the local pizza place. It is authentic Napoli-style pizza baked in a wood-fired brick oven. It was delicious.

Tomorrow morning we will awaken before sunrise and do it all again.

We were looking around in a little art gallery this afternoon, and they guy who does the art came out and started talking to us. Malida, to my surprise, asked him if she could take his picture. He was delighted to accommodate her, and we spent the next 20 minutes talking with him and taking pictures. All my camera pictures are still in the camera, so all I have are the few iPhone shots I took.



An old boat on the shore of Tomales Bay. It used to be more intact until some photographers accidentally set it on fire while photographing it at night a few years ago.

It was a good day.

Maybe it's because the photo is in black and white--and so the water doesn't automatically read as water--but what with the hills in the background, the boat looks kind of like it's beached in a meadow or field, leftover from ages and ages ago. I like that you can see "Point Reyes" on it.

The fact that the boat was set on fire (accidentally) by photographers seems like some kind of metaphor for how we can mess up an environment or thing we like by our attention to it. (Fortunately there are plenty of metaphors and real-life examples of the opposite thing, too.)

And I like Our Lady of the Small Kayak Dinghy (it's not really a kayak on second look!) very much. [Second Edit] Clearly I didn't even read the title of your post--so it's not Mary but Jesus in the boat, eh? Okay then!

It does look like Mary, without the beard.

Well, the boat is beached (and leftover from ages and ages ago), but it is hard to tell.

And, yes, on closer inspection, I now believe "Our Lady of the Dinghy" is the more appropriate title. No beard!
