Oct. 15th, 2002 03:26 pmI went back to my old nursing school today to speak to the graduating class about why they should come and work in my ICU. I hadn't been back since I graduated, and it was kind of exciting to walk back onto the campus. I got to see a couple of my old instructors, and they were happy that I had apparently turned out ok. They asked me if I was interested in doing some teaching there, which I found flattering.
The graduating nurses were mostly interested in money. I don't remeber that I really cared that much at the time, but I probably did. When I graduated, the starting salary for a new RN was $13 an hour, which was great, since I was kliving on a GI bill check and a couple of part time jobs at $6 an hour. These folks are looking at a starting salary of $25, with a raise in 6 months. I should have waited.
