chair #5

I was doing a favor for a friend who has left the world of acute care nursing and opened a botox clinic. She wanted to do a photo shoot with a group of her clients, all dressed up--glamour shots, etc., and asked me to shoot it for her.

I should never be anyone's first choice for glamour shots. I consider myself a documentary photographer--showing it how it is. Glamour is about showing it as it isn't.

Here's an observation I made--all these women had plenty of natural beauty, but it wasn't enough for them. I would show them test shots and they would grimace and remark on how horrible they looked. It made me sad. I decided that after this, I would not do any more glamour shots for anyone ever.

I really just wanted to dip a toe into this topic, but now it's above my knees. Time to get out.

It was an outdoor shoot, in an alley, and it involved lots of waiting around on my part. I pulled the chair out and sat in it while I waited.

"Why is there a chair in the back of your car?"

That's why.

I have a hard time liking one over the other--I guess because I have the connection to each on, and they remind me of when I took them. But I love the colors of this one.

I wonder if these women (botox clients) reacted differently than a group of non-botox women would have reacted?

Nice photo. A chair does come in handy.

I was thinking something similar.

I had actually written a couple more paragraphs about that, but decided that I didn't really want to delve so deep into something I don't really understand.

I would have liked to hear your more extended thoughts.

The architecture here is very complimentary to the chair.

It is--I didn't really notice it until I was editing the picture. When I took it, I liked the red wall, and that was enough.

This one started out as sort of an afterthought. I love how these things just kind of happen.

right!

this chair is kind of old--I think from the 50s, but its "wrinkles" give it character.

By far my favorite of the series at this point. It looks staged, but as if the chair belongs there, as if the place was made for it.

It does, and I didn't even notice how well it fit there until I looked at the photos later.

I agree that the chair and the environment were made for each other!

You have a great talent for finding the inner beauty of the people you photograph. My thoughts are ... these women are not in touch with their inner beauty. Their expectations were not in sync with you and your camera.

I don't like being photographed but I would gladly let you take pictures of me. :-)

This is gorgeous. Are you going to put it up on Tumblr? Because when you do, I will reblog it.

And I quite understand not wanting to do anymore glamour shots. I think I'd want to go running away as far and as hard as I could, until I couldn't run anymore.

I like doing favors for people, but this type of stuff just bothers me, for reasons I don't fully understand.

Wow! Lovely... Old Town? I could have used a chair this past week while in LA for work - lot of waiting around. ~A
