hammering man

The Hammering Man in Frankfurt. We saw him o our last day in Germany when we went downtown with the whole family. He is 20 meters tall. Adi tells me there are hammering men in other cities as well, including Seattle and LA. My life goal is now to see other hammering men in their native environments.

I completely forgot to make an entry yesterday. It was a fairly uninspiring day, where I accomplished little other than to make a new music playlist and play it for some online friends.

I have a lot of stuff I could be doing--getting my small car ready to sell, call the painting guy to finish painting our house, clear out all the junk in my office, look at the bills, fining pictures to print, emptying boxes marked "open Mar 07, etc. I lack motivation. At least I have a list now.

Go pet a kitty and take it easy. Some days need to be do-nothing days.

Petting a kitty always seems to do the trick!

Yes! Yes! We have a hammering man - I think ours was the first - about a half mile from my living room!! You must come see.

I had not been in Seattle long they day they first tried to erect him. He was having none of it and feel right over. I think it was about a year before they convinced him to stand tall.

Once, on Labor Day a group of artists laid a giant ball chain around his foot.

His arm has broken a couple of times.

And, yet, he hammers on today... just waiting for you.

He's no fun--he fell right over

that's funny that he fell right over.

I read about the ball and chain.

I love Seattle, and keep meaning to make it back up there. I know lots of people there. One day.

I saw the one in Seattle many years ago. There is another one in Frankfurt which is about life size. A crank operates the hammer arm, so people can hammer on a swastika that the sculpture holds in his other hand.

I read that the other Frankfurt one became decrepit and was disassembled.

It would be cool if the Seattle one was posted next to the space needle, and hammering on it.

I will! Is there one in Edmonton? Maybe under the dome?

Hah! I saw that and was like "Why is [livejournal.com profile] zyzyly in Seattle???" But then I realized it was the wrong color. Anyway, I'd love to show you our Hammering Man sometime; as well as the spoofed sculpture of Hammering Man holding a beer can instead of a hammer in front of one of the local bars ;-)

The correct question would be "Why is Zyzyly in Seattle and didn't visit me???" Which, of course, if I were in Seattle, I would.

What color is your hammering man?

Welllllllll, I did think that first, but I wasn't going to make you feel guilty for not visiting me in a place you weren't even in! ;-) Our hammering man is red! The beer-drinking man is black, though :-)

I think you have a good plan to see all the Hammering Men in various places.
I have seen the one in Seattle.

I've been in semi-hibernation mode. It's not good. Sometimes you have to kick yourself in the butt.

Or just accept that it's ok to sit on your butt every once in a while.

Google HQ in Mountain View has something like that, possibly originally put there when it was SGI HQ.

What is the story of Hammering Man? What is he hammering? Why are there many of him?

He seems thoughtful and deliberate.
