57149--the new cubicle

Monday is normally my day off, but we had a faculty meeting this morning, and I took last Friday off, so it all balances out. I got appointed to one new committee and one little task force at the meeting. I guess sitting in the back is no longer an effective strategy. It was my fault for looking interested in what they were talking about.

After the meeting, Linda and I went out for noodles and to talk about our project. We have another series of hospital visits to look forward before we pass it off to our coworker when we start teaching second semester.

I got back to my office and the new cubicle configuration was done. I still have the same corner, but I'm not boxed in. What they did was make a big square, and put each of us in the four corners, with the center open. We also got a communal work table, and two big book shelves for all our big books.

I should have taken pictures of the entire work space, but I wanted to find Male Nurse Action Figure, who spent the weekend in in coffee cup in a box.

Good to see that I'm not the only one with a rear view mirror at their desk!! I have a large window on the right side, but it still creeps me out that people can come up behind me on the left, so I put up the mirror! The postal station is behind me, so there's reason for people to be there.

I hate when people can see my monitor screen, too. It's no one else's business when I'm on LJ or FB!

It looks depressingly similar to my space at the awfus. Only, yours looks shinier and newer. And thank goodness I have a pair of larger monitors. I wish we had a work table nearby, but it's just a narrow walkway down the row of cells. I will be curious to see how you personalize the space.

So... do you have rules on how many personal items you can bring for your space? I had a friend who worked for a very large Fortune 500 company... and they had a limit of six or seven personal items that could be in their work space at any one time. That rule made me want to meet the person who forced the company to have that rule.

And God bless you, Mike... I'm not sure I am physically (er, emotionally) able to work with people behind me. Even my desk in the spare bedroom at home is set up so the rest of the house is in front of me. I live with one other person and a cat and I don't want anyone sneaking up from behind. Heh.
