tree-hugging monk
I was telling someone yesterday about my trip to Yosemite, and the tree-hugging monk came up. He stayed with us for a while back in 2012, and while he was here, we took him to Yosemite for a few days. He loved it, and loved the trees. I have a photograph of him with almost every tree in the park. Malida tells me that he is no longer a monk. Perhaps he became a arborist.

I bought some house plants yesterday and put them in some nice bowls, or whatever those plant bowl things are called. Pots, I think. I took them to work this morning and began beautifying our workspace. I was going to take a picture, but was late for a meeting, and then was able to string enough meetings together so that I didn't have to go back to the office. We also managed to fit in a lunch at the High Hand Nursery. Bonus!

Today was the end of the first semester for our students. Next week they will be back for second, and I will be back to teaching, although not right away, because they have OB and psych first. That will give me time to finish up my part of the project and pass it on. I'm looking forward to (eventually) being back in the hospital again.

You probably know this, but I'll say it anyway because I'm in a pedantic mood. Most Thai monks aren't in it for life. They are mostly there to make merit, and after an appropriate amount of time rejoin the mundane world, often returning to a wife (or wives) and children. Maybe your tree-hugging monk was making merit to balance his life as a lumberjack. :-)

yeah--most of the Thai guys I know did that. this guy had been a monk for more than 25 years. But I think he was a lawyer or something before that.

I think it would be fun to be an arborist.
