napoleon

A corner of my new desk space. We had a potluck yesterday and someone made guacamole, and I took the seed. Gonna grow a tree, right in my cubicle! I also took a cutting from one of the office plants and thought I would see if I could make a plant out of it. Historically, these efforts haven't been very successful for me, but I think the work environment will provide me with what I need to really concentrate on this.

That cutting is a pothos (a kind of philodendron). They are notoriously EXCELLENT for growing in water or dirt. They are the only thing I can ever grow and I love them. Yours will do fine. You might even consider cutting that long end just below the joint of the two top leaves and sticking it in the water, too. That way you'll have more sprouts the same size. (That little sticky outy thing just above the joint will be a root. I promise.)

The avocado... maybe not so much :)

I was once successful at growing an avocado plant from see, so remain optimistic. Anyway, it is a pleasant diversion from the office.

We made a plant out of an avocado pit, once. It grew for years. I used to keep it moist by setting ice cubes in the dirt to melt slowly. Hubby tried to be helpful once, and banked the ice up against the stem. Don't do that.

I grew an avocado plant from a pit once. His name was Slim. I was negligent about pinching new growth so it never got bushy. At our office we have several containers with philodendron cuttings. Good luck with your 'garden'.

Slim--I like that. If this thing grows, I will name it Slim Jr.

Can you imagine Napoleon on the subway during rush hour, sitting with his legs all apart like that so you have to squeeze in there. What a jerk!

Haha I so can, and I see him staring at me across the car, and when I look at him he says, "Whattr you lookin' at?"

Well it is a good thing you are doing something! Seriously, I read just today that Central America's crop is having troubles, mostly from land acquisition to other uses. Start another one. I will too. But in Kansas it seems hopeless.
