windy beach
Me on the beach with the seagulls.

We are staying at Gold Beach, on the southern Oregon coast. We have a nice room that overlooks the ocean and has a little hot tub on the deck. Interestingly, it is the least expensive room we have had on this trip. Off season, I guess. It is incredibly windy down on the beach, to the point that I worried about my camera. I am guessing my sensor is saturated with micro particles of sand.

We spent yesterday with my uncle and cousin. It was good to see them and visit. We went out for mexican food. After we dropped them off we drove down to the coast. On the way we saw two deer, which Malida took as a sign that we should move up here. We looked around a little more today, and decided if we did move, it would probably be closer to Portland.

As we drove down the coast this afternoon, we talked about what we would need to do in order to move. We decided to come back in a few months and look around the north coast area. I'm going to complete the application for an Oregon nursing license.

The last time I moved from one state to another, all my belongings, and my dog, fit in my car.

shelter
Shelter from the storm.

Tomorrow we cross back into California and sleep under the redwoods.

I love it too--the big rocks are just so impressive. It is pretty windy, though.

Beautiful.

Do you know how to clean the micro dust off of your sensor? I've seen a guy take apart a digital SLR... I don't wanna go there.

I know a guy who knows how to do it.

Sounds like you've had a nice trip, and are possibly making exciting plans for a new life. I love Oregon, and have considered moving there several times. I still think about it. I love Portland.

I love Portland too. I took a big long trip across the US about 9 years ago with the idea that I might want to move. Portland was the only place that I even remotely considered.

Am I selfish for hoping you move to Oregon so you can take fabulous pictures of new and exciting things? ;)

Drive safe.

Well, If you help pay for the move, then it's not selfish at all! LOL!

Did you build that little shelter? Is it big enough to sit in?

I like Malida's sense of signs :-)

We found the shelter already built--there are several of them on the beaches. We sat in one of them to get out of the wind for a while--it was nice. Like a little fort.

Love that photo of you on the beach. It really is gorgeous there.
Bet you can't fit everything in your car now. The Willamette Valley is a beautiful place to live. I have a girlfriend who lives about an hour southwest of Portland. Just close enough to drive to the city when she wants to.

I have a friend who lives about an hour outside of Portland. I just talked to her and we will visit them next time we come up to get their perspective.

What town does she live in? My friend lives in Amity which is on the highway that leads to the ocean and she is surrounded by grass, blueberry farms and vineyards.

She lives somewhere on Hwy 18, which is a little bit west of Amity. I've been past Amity, and it is a lovely area.

That is a lovely area. I would love to live out there. I like being on the eastern seaboard, but having lived in Washington for a dozen years I can appreciate the PNW.

Ah yes, Gold Beach: Gateway to Bandon. A company I formerly worked for sent me to Bandon in the dead of winter three times. The 4th time they scheduled me there, I quit. There's a lot more to that story, but that's the heart of it. Gold Beach at least has a habitable beach.

Are you supposing there is sand on the sensor because of picture quality, or because it was windy and sandy? Because if it's the latter, your sensor is probably fine. Unless you've been changing lenses on the beach.

I am hoping the sensor is fine, but there was so much fine sand dust blowing all over the place that I suspect at least a little leaked in. I have an older camera without the self-cleaning sensor, so I have to take it in every once in a while anyway.
