bridge
This is a leftover from a few nights ago. It's a 15-minute exposure off the balcony. I wasn't going for a 15-minute exposure, but forgot to shut it off. I'm not sure where the red halo came from, but I suspect it is the filter that's on the end of the lens.

We left this place two days ago, and stayed at a funky old place in Gold Beach last night. It was right on the beach, but it was so windy we barely ventured out. Instead we lounged in the hot tub and swam in the pool, that had an old-school deep end. It said no diving, but I did anyway.

The Coquille River Lighthouse

This morning we headed back into California, and are staying in Trinidad for a few days. We did some hiking in the redwoods this afternoon. It was refreshing after the oppression of the salt air (kidding).

forest
This is in Prairie Creek State Park, where we used to go camping when I was a kid. We'll be coming back out here tomorrow to do some more hiking and have a picnic lunch.

paul and babe
One of my souvenirs from this trip. So far I have a set of green lawn flamingoes, a bobble-head lawn gnome, and this latest addition--Paul Bunyan and Babe the blue ox. I'm thinking of adding Paul and Babe to my office support staff.

Home soon.

Many pretty pictures. I love the bridge. The red halo is, of course, the signal that it is the aliens' bowling night.

Well, that's what I was thinking too.

It's interesting, because I took a lot of shots of the bridge, and at some point the halo just showed up. Not sure why.

Ooooo - I want to do one of those at that bridge. Or any bridge. Or best yet, a train trestle. That is such a neat photo.

It's going to be interesting reading about your thoughts and plans regarding moving north and how that will fall into place for both of you. Quite exciting.

I gather you didn't book rooms ahead of time on this trip. Is that right?

I did book rooms, except for the one at Gold Beach. The place I took this is at the Best Western in Florence. I've stayed here a number of times over the years. I love the view.

I was thinking about time exposures up here and saw a couple of different opportunities. I'm going to have to get an intervalometer.

Looks good. I might book that place in Florence. Where have you stayed in Astoria? Recomendation? With a view of the river.

Avery unique bridge photo. I love the redwoods, they really lift your spirit being among the tall trees. I like your new additions, they will be great on your support staff.
You'll have to take a photo of your flock of flamingos, i've never seen green ones before.

I'm hoping to take at least one shot of them while I am still up here, but the opportunity hasn't presented itself yet.

I was thinking the same thing about the light in the trees--that's what caught my eye.

That Lighthouse is awesome.
I once flirted with the armed services. I don't know if I ever told you this. When I was about to graduate from UNI, I called the Coast Guard. I asked the guy if I could get a billet where I would be permanently assigned to their Barque, "The Eagle" and dude just laughed before he told me that it was impossible. Then, I asked him if there was any way I could be assigned to a lighthouse, ANY lighthouse. And he laughed even harder because everything was automated by then. I should have asked him more questions, because, now, my biggest regret in life is NOT joining the USCG when I still could. And then I waster almost ten years of my life having my soul sucked dry by Mental Patients. Anyway. Beautiful Photographs. And I'm overjoyed that your male nurse action figure now has back-up from Babe. For the difficult ones in the ER. You know.

Trinidad (or its across-101-sister, Westhaven) is ideally where my husband and I would like to move. I've been going there since I was very, very young and it seems like Paradise to me.
