58005--the botanical gardens

We woke up to a fairly cold room, thanks to leaving the window open to listen to the waves last night. Totally worth it. I got up and built a fire and we were soon toasty enough.


I love these old stoves.

After breakfast we drove out to the Mendocino Botanical Gardens, one of our favorite spots up here. There aren't too many flowers this time of year, but it is lovely nevertheless.


But there are a few...


There is a path that winds through the gardens (a few paths actually), and if you keep going you end up on the bluffs overlooking the coast.


Most of the times we have been out here, it has been windy and blustery, but today was just about perfect, and we spent about an hour just sitting and watching the waves crash against the rocks. Such beautiful music.

We had some fish and chips on the wharf, then took a walk in town before taking a nap and lazing the rest of the day reading books with the windows open.

We had dinner at a little hole-in-the-wall fish place, whose menu is completely from the local day's catch. Every bite was a delight. One of the best meals I have had in a long time.

Now we are home, and I am listening to Trigger Hippy. It is a band made up of Jackie Greene, Joan Osborne, and a couple guys from the Black Crowes. Jackie Green is a local guy from Sacramento, and is making great music these days. We have tickets to see them at the end of the month. Can't wait.

It's really a beautiful area. Love your photographs. The garden path strewn with camellia blossoms is inviting. I can almost hear the ocean crashing against the rocks. Thank you for sharing.
