Oh man, I was totally unprepared for how torn apart the house would be when they came in and started working on the floor this morning. I don't know why I envisioned a relatively tranquil process. First they moved everything out on the patio. then they started ripping up the carpet and jackhammering the tile that's being replaced.

tranquil
Looks tranquil enough, now. Just wait.

The cats freaked out from about the first minute and took off for parts unknown. I had planned to put them in my office with some food and a litter box, but that kind of went out the window when I couldn't find them. I ended up putting out food and litter boxes in every room they could be hiding in. Chock finally poked her head out of the closet in Malida's office this afternoon and I sat with her a while until she was happy. She's wandering around exploring now. Mook remained hidden until about 6 this evening, and I was able to put her in the room with Chocko. She looks shell-shocked.

boom box

There are three guys working on this. They are all very friendly, and seem to work well together. They had the boom box playing Spanish songs all day, and one or the other of them would often sing along, at the top of their voice. They seemed happy, which is good.

Meanwhile, I was sequestered in my office trying to finish this 50-slide presentation that my classmates and I have to submit this evening. 50 slides. That's what happens when you ask 5 overachievers to work together on something.

I will be so glad when this week is over.

It is kind of lovely when there's good music to go along with huge quantities of noise. When the guys rebricked the front of our house, they were both singing along to madonna as loudly as they could.

I had the rest of the carpet (the upstairs) ripped out last year, and boarded the cats during the process (they hated it, but it would have been more traumatic at home). Since the stairs were being done also, I had movers move all the furniture from upstairs to whereever it could fit downstairs, and the dog and I slept on my mattress on the floor in the living room (which was sort of fun.) A few years ago when I had the downstairs done, the cats could stay upstairs in their usual spots, but it was still pretty loud.
But anyway, I love having nice wood floors - looking forward to the after-photos!

Looking forward to the after pictures but probably not as much as YOU are for it to be complete. It's won't be long. 😀

Poor Mook! When I had the carpet replaced in my apartment I was a bit shocked by how noisy, and especially how dusty, the process was.

50 slides is approaching fatal levels of PowerPoint.

Cat hate their little world disturbed and are great at hiding. It won't take long for these guys to finish the work. Looking forward to seeing the after photo.

It will be so worth it when it's finished. Lock the cats up! I can't tell you how many times I've heard of pets escaping when a contractor left the front door open.

I finally got the dishwasher replaced on Sunday, and had to chase my two guys out from between the guys' feet. Noise doesn't bother them too much; though I would be the one too traumatized to have major renovation done in the house, there has been plenty of jackhammering done right outside the living room windows. They are the type to sit in the windows during a thunderstorm. I would prefer to hide in the closet with Chock, but they shame me.
