When I was in the 5th or 6th grade, there was a product called Shake-a-Pudding. It was powder in a cup, and you added milk to it and shook it for about 5 minutes. When you were done shaking, it was supposed to have turned to pudding. In actuality you ended up with a cup of thick milk with clumps of powder on the bottom. It disappeared soon thereafter from my lunch, and my life.

Since then, I have yet to meet another human being who has ever even heard of it, much less tasted it. I can remember it so clearly--even the lttle jingle from the commercial. Could this be something that my mind made up to distract me from the reality of my childhood?

That would be quite bizarre if your mind not only made up a fantasy product, but also a fantasy advertising campaign and the ultimate shortcomings of that product. You'd think if it only existed in your fantasy, it would shake up into a perfectly creamy chocolate mousse.

I'm not sure what that says about you. :-)

Hopefully the reality wasn't that you were treated like Shake-a-shake-a pudding...

This is interesting, because this is essentially the way I was taught to make Jell-o pudding. My mom showed me how you can just pour the powder in an old peanut butter jar with 2 cups of milk and shake it (but for only 2 minutes), then refrigerate it.

Man, do I love that pistachio Jell-o pudding.

I LOVED THAT STUFF.

Yes, I remember. I was especially fond of the clumps, the little sugary bits that crunched like sand but tasted sooooo good.

So it was real! I wonder if all that other stuff I remember was true too?
