zyzylyWe tend to get a lot of solicitation calls in th early evening, just about suppertime. My wife absolutely refuses to answer the phone, but I can't resist. I'm always thinking it's really some important call, you know, like Janet Reno or something.
Anyway, it is almost always someone trying to sell me something. I used to just hang up, but that's no fun. Now I play with them. I have lately been using a kind of southern yokel voice, like "Cletus" from the Simpsons. I'll let them explain what they are selling, and then I'll just act as if I don't have a clue about what they're talking about:
"A satellite dish? What the heck am I gonna do with a dish way up there in the sky? And how'd they get that durn thing up there anyway without bustin' it all to pieces?"
I just keep going until they give up or hang up. I always try to remain polite, so most of them really try to make it understandable.
My favorite so far was a call from some phone service. After talking to the guy for a while, I said, "well son, that ain't gonna do us much good, 'cause we don't got no phone here." There was silence for a minute, and he says "you don't have a phone?" I answer no, and he politely excuses himself from further conversation.
You can't buy entertainment like that.
