A long time ago I took a broadcasting class and learned how to do radio. It was at a little community radio station up in the hills. At one point, the transmitter was in a tree.

The station was completely independent and volunteer run. I would get an hour or two of airtime every once in a while and could play whatever I wanted. I'd drag a box of albums up the hill and just play whatever came to mind. I wasn't really any good at "banter", but I picked great music, and came up with interesting sets. I still have some broadcast tapes somewhere.

I would always start a show with FM by Steely Dan. I loved that song. It always set the perfect mood for sitting in a cramped little studio, late at night, with the lights turned low, sending music out into the world.

I nver got around to buying FM on CD. All I have is the original scratchy vinyl, that I haven't pulled out in years. I was watching public television tonight though, and they are showing a Steely Dan concert. They just played FM. I miss being on the radio.

Steely Dan.....boy that takes me back, haven't listened to them in ages. Somewhere in the basement is a moldy lp of 'countdown to ecstacy".....

It's funny--I really liked Steely Dan, but have never gotten cd's of any of their albums that I have.

"FM - no static at all!"

Steely Dan was my favorite band in college.

And I grew up just a little south of Annandale. Do you know the reference?

"My Old School". They played that one last night too.

You have a new icon!

That's right!

Actually, that's an old icon that Moonmama made for me a few years ago. I thought I'd change things up a bit.

Was that KVMR in Grass Valley? I've never heard it, but it was a favorite of my Dad's; he could pull it in in Sac'to back in 1985-87 when he lived there during the week.

He did live in GV during the late 60s when he worked there, too, I dunno if KVMR was around then.

It was KVMR. The studio was tucked away in a corner of the Victorian Museum.

Those are the only kind of radio stations worth listening too.

speaking about radio, i'd like to experience being a radio voice-over artist at least once. ^_^

My grandma did a lot of radio voice work. She really liked it, but it didn't pay as well as tv or film.

I was on the radio, too, in the eighties. WBGU: The alternative radio station at Bowling Green State University. It was so much fun. There was an awesome Steely Dan cover band out of Toledo that we always went to see. The Glass City All Stars.
