Munchkinland Coroner and other thoughts

I was watching the Wizard of Oz last night, pretty much because there was nothing else on, and I needed some distraction. There were a few things I wondered about. Actually there were about 8, but I forgot most of them overnight, so here are the ones that survived.

1. Why does Munchkinland have a coroner? Are there a lot of unexplained Munchkin deaths? A member of the Lullaby League was found beaten to death this morning. The murder weapon is believed to be a large lollipop. Munchkin police report that there are no suspects.

2. Dorothy meets the Scarecrow at a fork in the Yellow Brick Road. There were three possible directions. Where did the other two lead to? (And what was up with her hair?)

3. If no one ever gets to see the Wizard, as the doorman said, then what was the elaborate set-up for?

4. Where did they get all those flying monkeys from?

1. I think the big problem in Oz is witches not staying dead.

2. I believe, despite Dorothy's linear progress, the Yellow Brick Road goes throughout the Land of Oz (http://www.hungrytigerpress.com/tigertreats/ozmapwp.shtml), so the other forks could concievably go to the land of the Gillikins or the Quadlings.
And girl, let's not even talk about her hair.

3. I think people do get to see the wizard, there's just a lot of green tape to get through first.

4. The monkeys were a free people of Oz, given to practical jokes. A princess named Gayelette, who, annoyed with the monkeys for messing with her boyfriend Quelala, enchanted a golden cap to enslave them. Eventually the cap fell into the hands of the Wicked Witch.

Those flying monkeys scared the crap out of me more than the wicked witch did, when I was a kid. Heck, maybe they still do.

love the coroner! don't you wish all coroners dressed like that? the outfit, the hair the whole nine yards? how cool is that?
it wasn't so much the flying monkeys that scared me, but margaret hamilton in all that paint. yeesh....
