Thjis guy was really big--almost as big as my thumb. I has seen them around but had never been able to photograph one that clearly.

I want to find out more about them, because they are quite unusual.

I don't think I mentioned that one of my distant relatives researched giant sea snails on the Great Barrier Reef, and had a few named after him. Not that it has anything to do with bees. :)

no you didn't mention that! i've never been to the great barrier reef. it's one of our national natural treasures. very precious. also very lucrative for tourist $$$.
researching giant sea snails. that sounds fascinating!
