I am soliciting suggestions for books to take with me on our trip up the coast. What do you recommend for long relaxing days sitting by a fire and looking out at the ocean?

Fagles or Lombardo translations are the best, IMHO.

to kill a mockingbird

the da vinci code

wuthering heights

they all make me think of cloudy, moody, beautiful days.

enjoy your vacation no matter what books you take. :)

Mmmm ... it really depends on your inclinations and interests!

I usually find mysteries and thrillers to be good "mind candy" during travel and such. If you're less interested in the darker side of life, I'd recommend the series of "Best American Travel Writing of 2002" (or 2000 or 2001). It's an anthology of essays by top-notch writers, and it's printed as a trade paperback.

I personally always take John Grisham or Agatha Christie. But then I never end up reading cuz being on the beach with the sun and waves always seems to make me wanna sleep. :)

I've been reading the Shopaholics series of books by Sophie Kinsella. They're fun and light and I've enjoyed them. :)

Is she related to W. P. Kinsella?

"Greensleeves" by Eloise Jarvis McGraw. It's written for teen girls in the sixties, but I love it:)

Far Out!

This would be perfect, since I am, at heart, a teen girl in the 60's. :)
