wonderful photo. When we lived in Victoria this was a very, very common site too. Sometimes rather than give money I would simply go and buy the dog some food.
This was in Portland. We have a lot of homeless people in Sacramento though. For a while I voluneetred at a place that served free coffee and donuts in he morning for the homeless, and we were always full.
for some reason (maybe because i have a dog) i find this sadder than if it had said "i" need food. but still, how sweet that the dog is wrapped up against the cold. and how touching that this person has a dog to keep them company. it must be so lonely living on the street. and it's getting very cold now isn't it. :-(
