I know very little about some of the people on my friends' list. Some people I know relatively well. Some of you I hardly know at all. Perhaps you lurk, for whatever reason. But you friended me and I thank you.

But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's so and so...she likes spinach."

I'd love it if every single person who friended me would do this. Yes, even you people who I know really well. Then post this in your own journal, if you feel like it.

And I'm not a woman. And I like spinach.

I'm Lynn, and (in addition to what's in my profile) I'm homesick today because the cool, fresh, windy weather reminds me of home. (Upstate PA.) Of course, at home they already have a lot of snow on the ground.

Oh, and this icon is actually me.

Hmmmmm.... where to start.

I have two sisters - both named Kathy.
I am the only member of my family who hasn't circumnavigated the globe.
I was a CBC-recorded musiscian at 17 - and gave it up.
I've never seriously taken up a sport that I haven't wound up teaching.
I had completely given up on the idea of marriage and kids.

but most of all... I really, really, really hate spinach!

I converted to Catholicism when I married Bill in 1976. Our faith and Church has been a big part of our lives ever since. We sent our children to Catholic Schools and are active in the Music Liturgy still. Our Church family is our extended family.

The most strange and unexpected thing occured when our daughter left the Catholic Church and became a Presbyterian after her relationship with her fiance became serious. It was a compromise as he was raised as a non-denominational Christian. He couldn't see converting to Catholicism and she couldn't see converting to a Fundamentalistic point of view.

This was a very difficult thing for me to understand and get my heart around but I've come to the conclusion that part of raising kids is to let them go to make their own choices, even if they aren't the ones we would have made.

I'm Catherine. I'm 28, and I'm seriously screwed up, as anyone who read [livejournal.com profile] ladyfirebird over the last year well knows. I moved over to [livejournal.com profile] sonria about a month ago.

I was born in Indianapolis and had lived in four states before my fourth birthday. I've still only lived in four states. For all practical purposes I grew up here in North Carolina, though a couple hours east of where I am now. I've never worked or gone to school outside North Carolina.

I'm a first generation Catholic on my mother's side. My father was a first generation Catholic on his father's side. Which means that only one of my four grandparents began their adult lives Catholic.

I am allergic to mushrooms. I am addicted to peanuts.

I hate Christmas. I love Halloween.

My father died when I was fifteen. My mother left the Church when she met and married a fundamentalist minister.

I am currently stressing over school.

I have worked in the field of governmental human resources since 1996 and love it.

I am full of random annoying facts about myself. :)

My name is Jason. I'm getting married to Paula ([livejournal.com profile] mollyx) on March 21 of next year. I've never had a close relative pass away, and still have all four grandparents. I love spinach, and just had a slice of pizza on my way home from work today that was covered in it. I'm a unix geek and a musical theatre geek. I was born with a heart defect, and they thought that I wouldn't survive, but I had open heart surgery and, well, here I am. :) I win most scar contests with my open heart surgery scar. I'm very afraid of dying suddenly, like John Ritter or that guy from NBC News, though. I'm a slob. I used to bite my nails until Paula recently weaned me from that habit. Over the past two years or so, I've lost about 40 lbs on a diet of my own creation, which includes spinach.

I'm planning on going to law school, despite being, um, older than average. I have two step-daughters, am essentially getting divorced nowish and I'm moving down the hall, and I was born in Amityville. As in horror. Some people have made a great deal over this fact.

I have lived in Maine, Wisconsin, New York, California, and Illinois, in that order.

I have a degree in art history & French. It's been of little use lately. I also have a little certificate in copyediting. I never took an English class in college, and now all I do is read novels.

I love a lot vegetables. I hate mushrooms.

I was born in 1971. My husband was born in 1975. He is an only child. My sister is a decade younger than I.

I have never met my real father.

What, you don't read my entries!?

Hi, my name is David, but you can call me 'David.'

I think people who always try to make humorous comments on other people's LJs are pathetic, and that one user-icon is one too many.

I also lie a lot, but only when it gains me some advantage - the truth is perfectly acceptable when there's nothing to be gained by falsehood.

OK, those last two are big lies. Actually, so is this one. But at least I'm being honest about it.

Oh, and I have visited all fifty states. Really. No, really. Fifty. States. All of them. Really.

middle name: Howard

You may already know some of this:
-I'm incredibly not a morning person. I can block out wicked noises and still sleep.
-Before I had cats, I would have insisted that I do not have a nurturing bone in my body.
-I was born with a dislocated hip, a congenital double hernia that was not discovered until I was four. Due to the dislocated hip, learning to walk was delayed.
-until I was 7-8, I had recurring dreams of being unable to walk, as if my legs were tied to the floor.
-when given the choice, I will always laugh before I cry.
-As much of a sick and twisted humor person that I am, every so often, I'll watch the "Anne of Green Gables" mini-series.

Wow, it's a little intimidating to post the thing that you know might be the one thing this person forever thinks of when they see your name.

So I'll see if I can think of something good. Or at least somewhat unique. Or innocuous.

My father is a movie-holic, but I never really liked movies until I became a film major. Then I finally understood that movies aren't perfect, and I learned how to see what the makers were *trying* to do, and from that perspective I began to love movies, even bad ones a lot of the time.

Shortly before I graduated, I needed to an elective class and I picked History of Film because all you had to do was watch movies.

It turned out to be one of the best and most valuable classes I took. It opened up a whole other dimension to my movie watching experience.
