Normally I don't do these things, but...
Dec. 11th, 2003 04:15 pmI know very little about some of the people on my friends' list. Some people I know relatively well. Some of you I hardly know at all. Perhaps you lurk, for whatever reason. But you friended me and I thank you.
But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's so and so...she likes spinach."
I'd love it if every single person who friended me would do this. Yes, even you people who I know really well. Then post this in your own journal, if you feel like it.

I am the only member of my family who hasn't circumnavigated the globe.
I was a CBC-recorded musiscian at 17 - and gave it up.
I've never seriously taken up a sport that I haven't wound up teaching.
I had completely given up on the idea of marriage and kids.
but most of all... I really, really, really hate spinach!

Date: 2003-12-11 05:37 pm (UTC)The most strange and unexpected thing occured when our daughter left the Catholic Church and became a Presbyterian after her relationship with her fiance became serious. It was a compromise as he was raised as a non-denominational Christian. He couldn't see converting to Catholicism and she couldn't see converting to a Fundamentalistic point of view.
This was a very difficult thing for me to understand and get my heart around but I've come to the conclusion that part of raising kids is to let them go to make their own choices, even if they aren't the ones we would have made.

Date: 2003-12-11 06:04 pm (UTC)I was born in Indianapolis and had lived in four states before my fourth birthday. I've still only lived in four states. For all practical purposes I grew up here in North Carolina, though a couple hours east of where I am now. I've never worked or gone to school outside North Carolina.
I'm a first generation Catholic on my mother's side. My father was a first generation Catholic on his father's side. Which means that only one of my four grandparents began their adult lives Catholic.
I am allergic to mushrooms. I am addicted to peanuts.
I hate Christmas. I love Halloween.
My father died when I was fifteen. My mother left the Church when she met and married a fundamentalist minister.
I am currently stressing over school.
I have worked in the field of governmental human resources since 1996 and love it.
I am full of random annoying facts about myself. :)

Date: 2003-12-11 06:57 pm (UTC)Hi, my name is David, but you can call me 'David.'
I think people who always try to make humorous comments on other people's LJs are pathetic, and that one user-icon is one too many.
I also lie a lot, but only when it gains me some advantage - the truth is perfectly acceptable when there's nothing to be gained by falsehood.
OK, those last two are big lies. Actually, so is this one. But at least I'm being honest about it.
Oh, and I have visited all fifty states. Really. No, really. Fifty. States. All of them. Really.

-I was born with a dislocated hip, a congenital double hernia that was not discovered until I was four. Due to the dislocated hip, learning to walk was delayed.

Date: 2003-12-11 10:30 pm (UTC)So I'll see if I can think of something good. Or at least somewhat unique. Or innocuous.
My father is a movie-holic, but I never really liked movies until I became a film major. Then I finally understood that movies aren't perfect, and I learned how to see what the makers were *trying* to do, and from that perspective I began to love movies, even bad ones a lot of the time.
