but you see, my friend, they could be! the absence of great stuff in albums is for one thing only! more money for middlemen! witness what they do with some DVD's!~paul
I went to see Jethro Tull in 1973. My husband got the car stuck in the mud while trying to park in a field during a good soak in Southern Indiana. My friend and I went in to watch the show until Mark and his buddy got the car unstuck. JT was very late starting, hubby and the friend used their tickets to come in and tell us they were going to be awhile and that they could not get back in the concert (!!what?? No stamps on the hand?) so we had to leave after hearing two lousy songs. What I heard was great.
It's a tradeoff. Some old albums had great artwork and nifty features that their larger size allowed, but then again there is often more content to a CD booklet.
And, on the plus side, I don't miss having to get up every 15 minutes to flip the album!
But yeah - how many CDs are immediately recognizeable by their cover art anymore? Some of the classic albums had amazing illustrations! It's just not the same on a 5" square plastic box....
oh, word UP! Love Jethro Tull, and I have Stand Up on CD, but I didn't know about this hidden treasure!
I do, however, have Thick as a Brick (nice user pic!) on Vinyl (on CD you don't have the pleasure of flipping the album over in the middle of a song), and that album jacket is absolutely AMAZING. It would NEVER work on CD, no matter what they did.
