When we were down south for the holidays, one of my little 4 year-old nieces outfolded me in paper airplanes. She was just delighted that mine wouldn't fly.

oh, this is a KIT and they were designed by engineers. i'm sure i'll be bogged down in it for years, once i start. have you ever heard the old joke, "Four years ago, i couldn't spell the word

I found this quite by accident a few years ago on the Yamaha homepage. I have no idea what it's doing there - maybe Yamaha's president just loves papercraft, but it's really cool, and all the materials you can print off for free. I made the Japanese River Otter under the Rare Animals section and it did indeed look like that, just a little crumply due to my own ham-fisted clumsiness.

Wow, that is amazing. It would take a lot of patience to do that stuff. How long did it take you to do the river otter?

Not long at all, maybe 30 minutes or so, most of which was spent trying to get it "just right," which of course only resulted in more crumples. But it is one of the easiest ones there too - some of them look like week long projects.

In sixth grade, my Reading teacher got breast cancer. She had a basket of paper on her desk and I'd always leave a crane on her desk before class. I don't think she ever found out it was me.
