It was even more striking in real life--an empty white room with a single window, looking out on all this color.

You bet I do. I live in a neigborhood where every house is a different shade of the same dull sandstone color. Sometimes I get the urge to paint my house a bright color, with an equally bright (but clashing) trim, just to liven things up a little.
