Does anyone know a little something about Fort Lauderdale, Florida?

Some company called today and invited me attend a focus group thing there for a piece of medical equipment they are developing. It's all expenses paid, so it might be a good thing. I just don't have any clue about Fort Lauderdale, other than it's over there on the other side of the country.

Ft. Lauderdale is about a 45 minute drive from Miami, has nice beaches, and pretty much epitomizes coastal Florida- if you go soon you will see lots of German tourists and Quebecois snowbirds. It's tacky, but sunny and fun:)

It's nice. A very clean beach stretching for miles and miles. It used to be a bit down at heel but is now far from it. Very swanky residential distrcits back from the beach and and many multi-million dollar home situated on a newtork of very scenic canals. Lots of excellent restaurants. On the other hand it is Florida, so don't expect to see no tackiness at all. It's also very much on the gay vacation circuit, in case you didnt know.

[livejournal.com profile] king_duncan and I both grew up there, so we can answer any specific questions you might have.

Being natives, though, we tried to avoid the "touristy" things like the beach and such.

Well let me see. Think Provincetown, Key West, Miami, Palm Springs, San Francisco, San Juan for starters.

It is, indeed. Although if you want to know more specifically, you'll have to ask her. :)

I freakin' HATE lauderdale. It is a perfect example of why florida is "America's Wang".

But it does have the Blue Water Bookstore, one of the best for nautical books n' charts n' stuff. And I couldn't tell you the names of any of the bars because they are all the same, but I will give you a neat Barroom trick to use in Liquordale. Just as you are leaving the bar, turn around and yell "Hey CAP!" and just about everyone in the joint will turn around...
