Words

Usually after a week or so of posting pictures, I get an urge to post words. I can often feel a post gestating for a few days before it actually pops out. Sometimes the pictures are prelude--a way of saying something when the words aren't there. Most of the time there is no relation between the two--the pictures merely fill the empty spaces.

Some of my LJ friends are so talented with words--they can tell stories that bring me to tears or leave me convulsing with laughter. Others share day to day glimpses of their lives, often much different than my own, but almost always containing something that links us. I am grateful for these moments--they enrich my life.

I sometimes wish I was a different kind of journaller--the kind that writes what is happening at the moment, whatever it may be. I would love to capture those moments--sometimes they are so fleeting!

But I am not that kind. Every word is a struggle.

But who would give us pictures that captures the intrinsic beauty of the person or object in the photo?

i would like to be able to take photographs that touch hearts. some of the best journals on my friends page are photographic ones with very few prose entries. it's a richer world because there are different kinds of people in it. :)

Every word is a struggle.

Oh man, don't I know it! It can take me an hour to write just one page, and that is on a good day. On bad days I just give up.

More florid, less floral

Your pictures capture all the emotions and details that words can give, with the added benefit of visual beauty. We all express ourselves differently, that is what makes lj unique. Thank you for your pictures. I enjoy them.

I agree.

I don't comment much I guess, but your photos and your stories of life in your family often take my breath away.

I don't think I have much to add to the comments that are already here, but I'm giving it a go anyway.

I love your posts. Your pictures are always so striking. I don't know how long you labor at your "word" posts, but I also think you have a great writing style -- understated, economical, but with a lovely rhythm to it (and this one is no exception).

i find it is not the words i struggle with, it is the emotion which has inspired them which is the challenge. :-)
i agree about lj. the rich tapestry of communications, and the different ways people express themselves. what an honour it is to be allowed to share in people's lives.
i always look forward to your posts. pictures, words.... just that you take the time is a gift in itself.

Your photographs are like beautiful mirrors of who you are, an eloquent gleam of time on this earth. *smile*

Nobody is going to trade your photographs for anything. I have trouble writing as much as I would like, and I'm not demonstrating any gift for it when I do --- I'm just tormenting the keyboard. My pictures aren't much better. You excel at both, and you give me the motivation to try to do better.

I can't tell that you struggle to write in your journal. Your words "sound" just fine to me. But, if you are struggling... a question. Do you struggle with words when you speak? If not, then try writing as if it were talking. Pretend you are talking to someone and write the words down as quickly as you hear them. After a while, you won't struggle anymore.

Even if it doesn't work, you still have your photos, which are always a pleasure to see.
