promised land

There's a dark cloud rising from the desert floor
I packed my bags and I'm heading straight into the storm
Gonna be a twister to blow everything down
That ain't got the faith to stand its ground
Blow away the dreams that tear you apart
Blow away the dreams that break your heart
Blow away the lies that leave you nothing but lost and brokenhearted.

Well the dogs on main street howl
'cause they understand
If I could take one moment into my hands
Mister I ain't a boy
No, I'm a man
And I believe in a Promised Land.

I love that song. I think "Darkness on the Edge of Town" is going on the turntable as soon as I'm finished with Sufjan Stevens.

Any album that begins with a song like "Badlands" is going to be special.

I did. There was a big storm here the other day. I went home for a while to feed the cats and stuff. The storm was following me, and it hadn't gotten to our area yet, so I watched it come in. It was pretty dramatic--we don't get many storms like that.

I adore storm photos, and you paired it with song perfectly. The combination invokes a lot of interesting feelings.

yeah--as soon as I saw the picture, those lyrics came to mind--i didn't even have to think about it.

This song has always meant something to me--there is something about "...heading straight into the storm" that speaks to me of resolve, and facing life and all its little surprises head-on.

Exactly. Many people have commented on how brave I must be get through so many Big Things in the course of my life. Truthfully, it's that I'm more scared of new Big Things being at my back instead in front of me where I can see 'em. So, I face the new challenges head on and and just get through them the best I can.

And after you have faced a couple of storms, you know you can take whatever comes.
