The Ideal Wife
Nov. 8th, 2004 06:29 pmEarly on in my diaconate program, I had an assignment to re-write one of the Proverbs to reflect my own life. I chose Proverbs 31:10 and beyond. I had forgotten about it until I read a moment ago that someone on my friends list got married.
When one finds a worthy wife, her value is far beyond three-carat diamonds.
Her husband, entrusting his heart to her, has a great gift, given by God.
She brings him coffee when he is cranky, and removeth the empty mugs that lay scattered about.
She allows him to keep his office in disarray, but abideth no socks on the floor.
Like the tax collector, she gathers up his paycheck,
distributing it justly among the merchants,
working wonders with the budget.
Her husband wants for nothing, as long as he really, really needeth it.
She encourages him in all his endeavors, and supports him in his pursuits.
She comforts him when he is afflicted,
and provides him sanctuary in her heart when it seems that all other doors are closed to him.
She listens when he is troubled,
calms him when he is angry,
sooths him when he is upset.
She celebrates his laughter and shares in his joy.
She shares the burden of his sorrows.
Even in his darkest days,
when he reaches out in blindness and despair,
he finds her always at his side.
Possessions are deceptive and the rewards of the world are fleeting,
but the love of a wife is eternal.

I am no Arlina, that's for sure.

Date: 2004-11-09 09:18 am (UTC)There is a lot of "inside humor" in this--the three carat diamod thing goes back to our first christmas, when I asked her what she wanted. She asked for that thing every year!

I feel blessed each day to be able to have the opportunity to be wife to my best friend.
I think budgeting is something I could work on.
;)
thank you for the lovely proverb.
