My neighbor came to the door a few minutes ago and said, "did you know your pigs are gone?" And he was right--the two pigs that sit at the entrance to my front patio are gone! He lost one too--a white pig that resided in his wife's flower beds.

I liked those pigs. We found Door Pig in New Mexico on one of our trips to the southwest. He's sat out front greeting our visitors since we had this house. One year I made a little super-hero costume for him and dressed him up for halloween.

Flying Pig came from Point Reyes Station. Arlina saw him, sitting in the corner of an old feed store, wishing he could be outside with the fresh air blowing in his face. We granted his wish. He loved to smell the flowers.

I used to tell people, "look for the house with the pigs out front", and they would always find it.

bummer.

that is truly terrible.

what sort of person would steal pigs!

I say check the local high schools as stealing lawn ornaments seemed ot be pretty popular as a senior prank in Powder Springs, GA:)

I made a police report over the phone, and the lady who took it almost died laughing.

maybe, just maybe, they went on a walkabout and will return with amazing stories to tell. at least we can hope. :) i love the little flying pig -- he's precious.

Best-case scenario is that the flying pig took door pig for a spin around the neighborhood.

We've had two concrete lions and a celtic cross "disappear" from our yard. Since I can't contemplate the petty cruelty of anyone talking them, I choose to believe that they were trapped spirits who have completed their penance, and are now living happily on Lawn Ornament Island. It's just next door to the land of misfit toys.

Lawn Ornament Island is probably where my pink flamingos ended up too.

oh, shoot. i love the flying pig! what a sweet, babe-like face. sorry these are missing now.

some people down the road from us had their big stone goose stolen. a sign appeared on their fence saying "bring the goose back! no questions asked," or similar. it's a lousy thing to do, taking those things.

I'm thinking about hanging up flyers on the mailboxes in the hope that it was some local kids, and their parents will figure it out.

Well that sucks.

I have scaffolding in the front of my house, but oddly enough no one has stolen it yet. How do I put the word out?

I bought a flying pig very much like that one at Restoration Hardware recently.

I am hoping I can find another one like it. I think they are fairly common. I'm not sure about the other one, though--I've never seen another one like him.

That's disgusting. Stealing is wrong no matter what, but I especially hate it when people steal stuff that has little or no monetary value, just sentimental value to the owner. Especially something that would make passer-bys smile, as your pigs must have done. I hope you get them back. Flyers are a good idea; maybe some parent will recognize the ornaments in their kid's room and make the kid return them and apologize.

I'll post flyers when it stops raining, but I'm hoping someone has a change of hart in the meantime.

Yikes---I hope you do the flyers and someone gets a pang of guilt and they show up on your doorstep one morning soon.
The flying pig is so sweet!
Well, all I've had stolen was entire blooming tulips, bulbs and all, dug up, and by a pair of old ladies, of all things.

Really--old ladies? what were they thinking?

now I see what the piggy posse was about. I'm sorry.
do you think pigs can swim?
maybe they've been abducted by the underwater gnome threat (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/cumbria/4263761.stm).

Great pictures, first of all. Second of all, have you ever seen the Canadian sketch comedy show "The Kids in the Hall?" They had a recurring sketch about Flying Pig, who entertained people waiting in line for ATMs, street vendors, and the rest of life's line-ups. Then he died (I think he was shot, but I don't remember) and his son--named Son of Flying Pig--took his place for awhile. Until he was tragically captured and carried away by a giant hawk. Your pictures reminded me of the sketches, which were very bizarre, but incredibly funny.

I used to love "The Kids in the Hall", but never saw the Flying Pig thing. Your description of it cracked me up, though!

that was a rotten thing to do. someone
stole a 75-lb chunk of granite from our front
yard in the last place we lived. i could never
figure out what they wanted with it. not the same,
i know, but it's curious how attached we get to things,
especially if we associate them with special people.

THAT so sucks. Such bad karma... just bad.

I remember Flying Pig... :) I think you posted him not long after we became LJ friends.

I hope the pigs find the pigs. (sorry... trying for any kind of humor escape valve)

I remember the day I took the pictures of him, and being so pleased with how they turned out--it ooked like he was smelling the flower.

I need to get less attached to stuff, because it hurts when I lose it. (I'm sure a social worker can read more into that :))

When we lived in England, we carved and put out a jack-o-lantern for Halloween. A novelty there, as none of the natives do. After the fourth of fifth trick-or-treater (which is also something done very wrong there), we noticed it was gone. We wondered at the thought process behind nicking a lit squash, but there was nothing to be done about it.

You needed a sign out front that said "We don't rent pigs." Hopefully you will catch the reference, and hopefully your pigs will return!

I hope it's just a prank and you'll get the pigs back with a collection of pictures of the pigs on vacation. But you know, if they had gone on vacation, at least they could have left a note...

There is a pig EXACTLY like it on eBay right now...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=10866&item=7134847276&rd=1

Marc and I put a bid on it for you, but we've already been outbid. I'm sorry we can't afford to wager more right now. Would you maybe like a little Sculpey pig instead?

There are several other similar cast iron winged pigs, but none of them have the same sublime expression.

I got the pig!!!!

I guess he was delivered on tuesday, but they hid him behind something on my front porch, and I didn't notice it until today.

He is very clever!

I'll take some pictures this weekend and post them. Can you email me your address so I can send you a card? (myasma@gmail.com)
