I admit to being old-fashioned, even reactionary in some respects. A man should not wear an earring unless it is part of his cultural heritage, e.g. a Roma (Gypsy). Long hair and a beard are okay if you are a hermit or completely insane. Short hair and clean shaven makes life easier in so many ways.

If you are a hermit-in-training then, okay, you can grow long hair and a beard but I draw the line at recreational body piercing. The only allowable form of body piercing would be for extreme penance or martyrdom.

My formative years were in the conformist 1950's and I retain some (but not all) of those stereotypes. A man with an earring was considered to be a little bit, um, you know, odd.
