After having talked myself out of the clinical teaching position, I thought long and hard about just what it is I ought to be doing with my life. I have been floating aimlessly for months now, and am ready to put ashore and cast my net among the lilies of the field, or something.
So I accepted the clinical teaching position. I talked to my friend Dana who taught in the program last year. I told her some of my concerns, and we talked through them. I mentioned that I was kind of crabby, and she reminded me that she was kind of crabby too. As it turns out, Dana is one of the two people who took over my old job (the other one is named Dana too--they call themselves "the Dana's"). So, in effect, we switched jobs, sort of.
There is, of course, no way to know if it is the right decision or not, but I am looking forward to finding out. If nothing else, it will keep me occupied for the next 4 months. I will be with a group of 4th semester nursing students as they complete their final clinical rotation before graduating. It is mostly toward the end of the week--prep day on wednesday, and then clinical rotation on thursday and friday evenings. Yes, it will put a damper on my friday night social calendar--hahahahaha!
If that weren't enough, I decided to go back to school (as a student), since I will have free time at the beginning of the week. I registered at my old college and signed up for a photography class! I actually squealed with delight when my student ID number came up on the screen. I like being a student, and I am a dork. It was so easy! I could even pull up my old transcripts and see that I first went back to school to become a nurse 20 years ago this coming semester.
This is where I write something that ties this all up into a neat little ending. yeah.

Date: 2005-12-23 11:42 pm (UTC)I think it will be great for you. I have visions of Scrubs sitcom type scenarios. I'm sure that's not accurate, but Oh, the hijinx...
What photography class are you taking, and where? I was thinking of taking a photography class one of these days...

Date: 2005-12-24 12:53 am (UTC)I am a very bad tempered and crabby person, and my students loved me, partly because they knew they could say "Ms.H, I'm having a lousy, so could I just sit in the back and not say anything?" and know they'd be respected.
I'm thinking about a photo class, too - it would be nice to know what more than 3 of the buttons on my camera do ;)

Date: 2005-12-24 01:00 am (UTC)Are you going back on your own steam to college, just for the whoots? I think about that. I'd like to take a painting class as an older student, as I believe I'd be more serious and appreciate it more than I did as a teenager (ie, learn more). You'll do wonderfully in a photography class, as you're already doing it and have a good eye.

Date: 2005-12-24 10:22 am (UTC)Your photos are great as they are, but the class will give you the confidence to take it even further.
And, you understand the learning process which is why you'll make a fantastic teacher. You got nuttin to worry about!
Hang in there. :)

Date: 2005-12-28 04:24 pm (UTC)But it is the photography class that caught my eye... it's great to see you moving onwards with your hobby. Who knows, perhaps one day that will be your profession!!??!
I am looking into buying a digital Canon. Please don't ask the model number, I don't know it yet. I just know that I am not interested in what my photographer friend here calls a 'party camera'. I'd like the real Mccoy, like you and he use. I seem to have a natural eye for photography and plan to explore it more this year.
Anyway, Happy holidays M. I hope you are enjoying yourself. D
