taking the wolverine up to annandale
Jan. 12th, 2006 10:55 pmI went back to my old school today for an appointment with the director of the nursing program. I got there early and walked around the campus. I'll be taking the photography class here this semester, so I found the photo department and checked it out. Everything was closed up, but at least I know where the doors are.
I had kind of decided the other day that I wasn't going to take the class after all. There is a lot of stuff going on and I wasn't sure I would have the time to commit to it. But last night I had a dream.
I dreamed I attended the first day of class and it was really interesting. After the class I was standing outside and a couple of the photography instructors were there. I approached them to ask about what kind of camera I needed for the class.
One of them, a woman, turned to me and said, "Oh, hi! You know, you'll do great in this class--you have just the right beard for it!"
I take that as a sign.
Back in the real world, I got my student ID card. I think it is the best ID card picture I have ever gotten. I have just the right beard for it.
After that I wandered around some more and checked out some of my old science classrooms. The whole science building still smells the same. I looked into my old anatomy lab and fondly recalled making a limbic system out of clay. I had planned to make a whole human being and reanimate it, but the semester ended.
At 4 pm I walked over to Mohr Hall and the nursing department. The director of the nursing program happens to be my former ob-gyn nursing instructor, and the assistant director is my old psych instructor. They both remembered me and greeted me with hugs. It looks like everything is "go" for starting at the end of this month. Before I start, I get to shadow another of my old instructors--the one I always used to argue with. That should be fun.
They were quite pleased that I was coming back as an instructor. They went on and on about the "full circle" thing. It is pretty cool. And it is the best nursing program in town.
Oh yeah--faculty parking permit! Whoo-hoo!
