A long time ago, someone on my friends list suggested I look at [livejournal.com profile] blakeh's journal. He was going through something similar with his girlfriend [livejournal.com profile] kamigirl25 to what I was going through with Arlina's illness, only he was able to write about it in a way I couldn't. I friended both of them and have followed their journey.

[livejournal.com profile] kamigirl25 passed away early this morning.

I can't say it any better than this. Many good thoughts to everyone who loved her; may they remember her well.

Wow. I read what [livejournal.com profile] blakeh posted and can't really think of anything useful to say right now.

Except... although I know from experience that getting your thoughts on paper can be very cathartic, I also think it's a very generous gift to allow such a personal experience to be shared by others through writing.

I befriended Blake after sharing a comment in your journal, so I'm very glad you did. He's a good LJ friend, and so are you, and my heart has gone out to both of you many times.

"No man is an island, entire of itself...any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind..."

--John Donne

Mr. Donne probably had no idea how easy it would one day become to involve oneself with people all over the world. So many, many chances for diminishment.

But of course, people on my friends list are also getting married, having children, and having adventures - on which I can tag along. With all due respect, I think he neglected to include the part about how every person's success empowers me, too.

In your journal and in the one you cite there's a lot of both going on.

May Karen rest in peace.
