paint it black, you devils!

I had to hang out all day waiting for a truck to come and pick up some of the stuff I'm getting rid of, so I messed around with my camera and came up with this. I like it.

I had them take away all my living room furniture. I never liked looking at it, and it was not even comfortable enough to sit on with my eyes closed. It's always been such a non-room.

Now I'm going to move my comforable family room furniture in there (including the browncouch, and turn the family room into a creative room, because it has really nice natural light.

This was the first step in de-volumizing and simplifying my life. My goal is to give away three-quarters of my stuff by the time the summer is over. I'm guessing it is going become more difficult the further along I get.

Everyone who has done it has said the same thing. It's just hard to break attachments to some things.

I just had an insight--most of the things I keep are because there are memories associated with them--I can still keep the memories without the things--kiind of like eliminating the middle man!

yes! :-)
memories can be kept forever! *hopes that memory loss does not strike me at any time!!*
i was brutal... forced myself to give up things i was very attached to. i am still attached to the memories.

Cool picture and interesting music choice.

I admire your dedication to trying to pare down your "things." I might move soon (within this same area) and it will probably be to a slightly smaller house. I haven't quite figured out how that's going to be possible.

Alejandro Escovedo's new album is killer.

yes--I have to pare down my stuff so that it will all fit in one room, and it seems impossible right now.

Wow! I got rid of some stuff when we moved in together, and it was tough but I may only be at the beginning stages of this growing-up activity, since I am no long anywhere near as acquisitive as I used to be. Clearly some people never even get this far.

I spent about the first 28 years of my life with nothing more than I could fit in my car, but once i settled down, stuff just seemed to come my way!

I subscribed to this way of life when I left WV for CA.

It's liberating..freeing

And, yup. It does get harder.
But for now, YES on the browncouch awash in natural light.

i set up a table where the brown couch used to be, and it was in the light from the window next to it that I took this picture.

You know what? It really is liberating. It's hard sometimes while you're doing it but once it's done, you won't miss those things. It's a relief really. What is that rose made of?

the rose is made of scrap iron. I got it from a guy in south dakota who has a field full of scrap metal sculptures. it was one of the highlights of my trip last year.
