We always kept the fingernail clippers in a little dish on the mantle over the fireplace. I never really gave it much thought. I just grabbed one out of the dish whenever I needed to trim my nails, and generally put it back when I was done. I assumed Arlina did the same, since every once in a while a new set would show up, and she was generally in charge of that kind of stuff.

Once when she was really sick, toward the end, she asked me to clip her nails. I got up and walked over to the dish and started to grab one of the clippers.

"No", she said, "not those".

She directed me to a little zip up case in her drawer in the bathroom. So I got it, and inside was a set of clippers, and not the cheap ones I always used, but really sharp ones. I asked her about it.

She kept the good ones for herself, and when she was done with them she would put them in the little dish for me to use.

Almost a year and a half later, and it still surprises me that she would do that.

In these little quirks and nuances are the fascinating parts of a person.

I come from parents who both have a different form of OCD, as do I, and in addition, my mother and I are nurses and my father is a psychologist. Lots of quirks in my household, growing up... some are more endearing than others.

yeah--it makes me wonder about all the other things I never got to discover.

I guess we all have a secret place inside us (though mine is mostly filled with that stuff I find in my pockets).

The things you did discover are bound to keep you marvelling for years... after all, we never find all the shells when we visit the beach, just the ones we're supposed to find.

your current music tags seem to always have meticulously chosen music that relates very closely to the subject at hand..

are you actually listening to the music or do you seek out those particular songs?

It is a mixed bag--sometimes the picture inspires the music, and, less frequently, the music inspires the picture. Sometimes, like with this one, it is just a random coupling that happened to work out.

The music that I list is always the music I am listening to as I am processing the post.

I didn't expect myself to spend that much time looking at your pictures, but I really enjoy reading the little story behind each picture you took. I love this one the most!
I can picture how you looked when Arlina told you there were "other" nail clippers.
